I went back to college to learn the treatments and decided to take the plunge. I didn’t like working for someone else. I grafted too hard for other people and that was it. I knew I could do it – your self belief has to be very strong when you are self employed.

It’s not about being a woman – the factors determine your success are dependant on your that will motivation and determination to succeed.

My top tip for women starting a business - do not skimp on the cost of a good website and business cards and literature.  Keep them in every bag and coat pocket - you will always have them with you to give out.

Get as much advice as you can. There are lots of organisations who can support you with both training and financial incentives. These agencies want to see you succeed and will provide an independent view that so much easier to listen too.

I work with people to release any negative energy that they may be holding onto and can even work with people on phobias. When people find themselves feeling better they are more able to set and achieve life goals, which is much the same premise as the Women Mean Business scheme, which empowers women to go for it and set up by themselves.

Illness forced Diane to rethink what she wanted from life and, after much soul searching the former medical secretary from Accrington took the plunge and contacted the No Limits Women Mean Business support scheme. They helped me overcome lots of business hurdles that seemed impossible for me to overcome.

Setting up your own business is a great feeling. We are our own boss and our success so far has given us a great deal of satisfaction and motivation to do more.

We aren’t going to rest on our laurels though; we will keep building the business and hopefully open other shops in the area.

Emma started her business in January this year with help and support from Burnley Enterprise Trust. The Mayor of Burnley was a special guest at the opening of The Workwear Warehouse

She says: don't be afraid to ask for help when starting your own business.  Schemes like Women Mean Business give tremendous support.
